Reader’s Choice Award

As we’re dedicated to paying our writers and we don’t run ads, that money’s coming straight out of the pockets of the editor. To help offset that cost we’re running a prize for “Reader’s Choice Award”. At the bottom of every post there is an option for readers to nominate the piece for the Reader’s Choice Award by donating one dollar to the journal via the editor. At the end of November we will tally up all donations and name a winner. That winner will have their original post pinned to the front of the magazine for all of December, they will receive half of the nominating donations, and we will print a limited edition broadside of the winning piece with the writer receiving 20 copies, and the remaining copies being available for a low cost to further help the journal stay afloat.

How to nominate

Click the button at the bottom of the post or click here to go to the editor’s paypal.me page, and from there make a donation and in the notes comment which piece you’re nominating. Each dollar donated will equate to one vote. Be sure to write in the note which piece you’re nominating. We don’t want to play email tag trying to get the count correct, I mean, we will because we care, but we’d really appreciate your help here.

Remember, this is a fundraiser

If you dig the journal’s mission you can of course donate just cuz, or you can work with us on arranging a contest named after a loved one (or yourself) or you can adopt a month with a donation that will be split up between the writers published that month or if you even have another idea shoot us a message and let’s work something out! We’re here to build community and help writers get paid for their words, which is why we also have our ‘Buy them a Coffee’ option if the author opts in. Because why not also have the option to tip a writer when you read something awesome? A buck or two and some kind words can certainly make someone’s day.
